The Passion Behind Cody Fry’s Music

Watch our latest Musicbed Session, and see why Cody Fry is the perfect embodiment of a modern musician.

Cody Fry is an artist perfectly aligned with the evolving demands that define success as a working musician in today’s cultural landscape. He’s got all the bases covered—strong songwriting, a commanding live performance, and an understanding of the social media scene where most music discovery happens these days.

He simply gets what takes to succeed as an artist in 2022—and that’s why it makes perfect sense to turn the spotlight on Cody Fry for the relaunch of Musicbed Sessions.

Cody has quite the résumé, one that showcases a multitude of experiences. There’s the stint on American Idol. There’s also the notable TikTok success, with covers of “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles (a song that nabbed him a Grammy Nomination) and the viral popularity of his own hit “I Hear a Symphony.”

His latest work, “Underground,” showcases his full range as an artist. In this video, you’ll see Fry’s passion ignite right before your eyes.

Cody follows his passion no matter where it might take him. As he pointed out while reflecting on his Musicbed Sessions experience, letting passion guide him is how he ended up leading a live orchestra at Nashville’s famed Ocean Way Studios.

“I’ve never really done anything quite like this before. This is something that I’ve really wanted to do for a long time, and now I have the opportunity to do it, so I’m going to do it,” he said with a laugh. “That’s how I’ve always been. I follow where my excitement is taking me—that’s always been the path to success as well.”

Cody’s love for orchestral music is in his blood. His father, Gary, is also a composer in the field who found success around the world in multiple media across several industries. Now, Fry is taking his family’s orchestral tradition a step further by bringing it to his pop songwriting.

“Orchestra, to me, is part of my language. It’s something I speak fluently, I hope. I’m not hiring an orchestrator to do this. I’m putting every note into the score myself,” he told us. “There’s something so cool about the palette of the orchestra, and it’s so fun to experiment with different colors, ranges, and instrument groupings. It’s a big puzzle, and I love puzzles. This project is a result of feeling like I have permission to make music this way now, and that is really exciting.”
